English - Literacy

Our pre-school Literacy Focus Group started in 2002 and has been going from strength to strength.  The group work in the Library on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning on a range of resources; work booklets, games, computers, age appropriate newspapers, short stories and plays; the aim is to make spelling and reading fun!

We spend a lot of time throughout the year focusing on specific spelling strategies such as; look, say, cover, write, check, mnemonics and syllables.  These methods prove very useful when we hold our annual ‘Spelling Challenge’.  Students efforts are rewarded with treats including our Big Breakfast, trips to the cinema, Craigavon Ski Slopes and The Grand Opera House.
